To me, this one is about searching for, and starting to think you will never find a true 'soul mate'.
'You're the only one i want and I've never heard your name' gives it away a little and the title 'highway kind' is a reference to the wandering existance of the writer. He's just meandering through the days, trying to get what he can out of them while waiting for something or someone to come along and make it all worth while. 'I'll meet the one's between us/be thinkin' about you/ all the places I have seen/ and why you were not there..
Typical Townes in the way he just observerd his own existance with equal amounts of sadness and pleasure. 'Time amongst the pine trees/ felt like breath of air, usaually i just walk these streets/tell myself to care. Being in the key of E minor though, I say it's more a loathing than a celebration of being 'The highway kind'.
Usually I just walk these streets
And tell myself to care.
Sometimes I believe me
And sometimes I don't hear.
Sometimes the shape I'm in
Won't let me go.
Usually I just walk these streets
And tell myself to care.
Sometimes I believe me
And sometimes I don't hear.
Sometimes the shape I'm in
Won't let me go.
Is the best description of depression that I have found.
