I'm a fan of the band. I can proudly, and honestly admit that they've saved my life multiple times. I love all of the band members, all of the songs, and all of the albums. The lyrics speak to me. And even though some may not understand what they mean, I do. And I think it's important for people to know a few things about My Chemical Romance.
First, though, you should know something about me. I am not one of those emo, obsessive fan-girls. Seriously. "omfg, i am totally gunna rapee mikey effing wayy!!" That's not me.
Now, moving on. My Chemical Romance does not encourage self-harm, suicide, or anything of that nature. They are completely against it. They are not an "emo" band. Or, at least the modern misconception of the term "emo". Their lyrics are extremely metaphorical. Their lyrics do mean something, contrary to what you may believe. Even though you may not see it, they do.
I don't care if you don't like their music, or if you think they're whiny. That's your personal opinion , and I can't change that.
The reason My Chemical Romance fans are so obsessive and so defensive of the band, the members of the band, and their music, is because My Chemical Romance has saved so many lives with their message. It is simply, "Love yourself. Be yourself. You're a beautiful person. Don't ever hurt yyourself; it's not worth it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Even if you stop loving us, we'll never stop loving you."
Does that sound "emo" to you? Does it sound like they encourage self-harm and suicide?
Okay, listen I am not trying to judge you, and in may ways I agree with you, but...

I really enjoy My Chemical Romance, but their fans can be kinda dumb. The "they saved my life" thing bugs me, when I was a 14 year old, (im currenlty 19) I was depressed, and I had many suicidal thoughts, and Im sorry, maybe because my situation was different I don't really think that music would have changed anything, I enjoyed MCR, still do, but it didn't solve my problems. I identifyed with MCR, and still do, I am sad...

I identifyed with MCR, and still do, I am sad that they are gone, but I have always thought that most Emos, at least most of the ones i have met, are just winney hipsters, and im not even talking about the way they dress. I don't have the jet black crazy hair, but I have natuarlly dark brown hair, its kinda shaggy, and I have a few pairs of blue and black skinny jeans, so trust me im not judging them, I just find most of them pretty fake.
I don't really think they have some kind of overall message, to me it feels like Gerard is really trying to vent, he isn't promoting anything, so they aren't saying cut yourself, but they also aren't telling you to love everybody.
I don't believe that they have sold out, but I will admit that the sound has changed, it sounds more produced, and less raw, which I prefer a raw sound, but im not going to complain to much about it, I still feel like TBP was allow plenty of creative freedom, It didn't feel fake to me.
I hope I didn't come off as a dick, I just have an opnion, I don't want to offend.
