I love the more reserved and delicate deerhunter songs. this track has a restrained tension and melancholy in it, it immediately hit me, reminds me of the sensations we feel when the world has us down. Things around us seem useless, wasted, unnecessarily cruel and meaningless. Even the things that should be beautiful or positive, just seem false. Cox captures that sentiment about as well as anyone in music today. Although its interesting that this song has an upbeat rhythm with handclaps and group vocals, the keyboard chords are unmistakably melancholy. Brilliant song.
