Mmmm, I love this song. I am basically listening to it on repeat. I like what everybody has described it as what it means to them, because I was having a difficult time determining the meaning. I like to think of it as a mixture of what everybody has said in the previous posts.
He is dating a girl that is younger than him and she is starting to get into some of the habits that he is doing such as smoking and drinking and possibly drugs.
He is saying she is too young to be getting into these habits because she's too young and it's too soon, he doesn't want it to end up hurting her. 'This is when it starts, from the beating of your heart till the street lamps talk to you' reminds me of when you drink and, usually, you start feeling good, your heart is pounding, you're having fun. She is obviously drinking so much that everything around her is screwy. 'Everything's turning dark to you' could either be when she drinks, she gets depressed, or it could be her passing out or even blacking out. I am guessing maybe she gets depressed because he talks about a dr. and charts and kind of not knowing about that darker side of her. Maybe she has issues and when she drinks, he finally sees that she is depressed.
He doesn't want to be the one that exposes her to these things because he doesn't want them to hurt her. He's basically saying, I like you too much to do that to you, so if you want it, find somebody else.
For some reason I love the part 'It was the second I lit your first cigarette, I forgot who you used to be. And I bit my lip the second you sipped the poison that was mixed for me.' It is kind of like he doesn't like her being around these influences and he can't even remember how she was when she still had her innocence. I don't know why I love that verse, but I can basically picture him and some girl and he is kind of upset just watching her getting into all of this stuff. It's kind of like she is so normal about it, you know? She's so young, but she is sipping his drink and smoking and he is kind of trying to remember the old her.
I absolutely love 3oh!3. I am so glad that they have gotten so famous, I was so happy when I heard their first popular song on the radio. They are an amazing band. I love their crazy songs with lyrics that just make you laugh, but songs like this and 'Still Around' show you what range these guys have. Since it's such a crazy band, when you hear these slower, more meaningful songs, they just hit you harder and seem like they really mean what they sing. It basically makes them amazing. ( :
