No-one is quite sure what the hidden meaning of this song is - but everyone believes there is one.

Frank said it was partly about Beefheart's teenage slovenliness (and the way his family put up with it!) - later he appeared to confirm a suggestion that it was partly about himself working late nights in the editing room.
