Ok, even though I am sure this song was indeed inspired by Selena, there are other out there who have had the same experience. And Nick knows this and wants to be an inspiration to those people, so he took Selena's story and wanted to get it out there so other would know that they aren't alone.
The song itself is pretty self explanatory, but I personally love this line.

Meaning, she may be young but she is very mature for her age and carries herself well. And she wants to be smart and hold herself well and prove that no one has to worry about her,, even though she may shed a tear every now and then, she can handle herself ad doesn't want people to pity her just because of something that may have happened in her life.
