I just want to start off by saying that I am a definite Metric fan. I love Metric, Soft Skeleton and I even have this CD that Emily Haines produced when she was in college with Amy Miller, awesome stuff. It's quite visible that there aren't as many Metric fans raving about this song as they did their other stuff. We were much more active in writing about Metric's music encountered on their actual albums rather than this soundtrack and I think it's obvious why. This song is very straight forward. No interpretation is needed. What I do want to say about it, is that I love it because this is the song that will make people realize that they have so many other great songs. I don't feel that Metric completely changed who they are to put this song out. I feel that maybe they just wanted to be involved in this soundtrack, maybe they're "Twilight" fans, you never know, and wanted to put something out there that related to this movie, I don't know. One thing is clear though, they couldn't have put lyrics like the ones found in "Hustle Rose" or "Grow up and blow away" on this song, the new audience they would be playing to wouldn't be used to it and wouldn't get and maybe even skip over it. It feels like maybe they're just making themselves a little easier to relate. All I know is that when this soundtrack came out I looked at my girlfriend and told her how happy I was that this CD is going to sell so much just because of the movie and from it, more and more people will be introduced to Metric. They are an amazing band and deserve to be recognized as such, also more money going their way means more resources to put out more wonderful music to keep fans like myself happy. Sorry for how long this is, I don't think I know how to write short paragraphs.
About the CD Emily made in college...are you referring to "Cut in Half and Also Double?" That album is quite rare and not to mention awesome -- a real treasure!
