"You make me wanna die". Metaphor. "I'm young, I'm fresh, I'm innocent, I'm new and you make me wanna be bad, dark, and dangerous, but I'm not. I would do anything to be like you and to be with you, but everything you love about me will burn up in the light if I change. If I become bad, I will lose everything you love about me." Life vs. Death Light vs. Dark Opposing sides, forbidden love, opposites attract. Oh hey, no mention of vampires.">
I think you are all being ridiculous. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE TWILIGHT/WEREWOLF/SUPERNATURAL RELATED. At all. Clearly, pop culture is making the world stupid.
It's about being innocent and vulnerable. She's innocent and young; alive = lively, fresh, new. And she wants to be bad and dark and sinister.
"I'm alive" ---> "You make me wanna die".
Metaphor. "I'm young, I'm fresh, I'm innocent, I'm new and you make me wanna be bad, dark, and dangerous, but I'm not. I would do anything to be like you and to be with you, but everything you love about me will burn up in the light if I change. If I become bad, I will lose everything you love about me."
Life vs. Death Light vs. Dark
Opposing sides, forbidden love, opposites attract. Oh hey, no mention of vampires.
I agree completely. When I first heard this song, I thought about my cousin Alice. She used to be so sweet and so gentle, so full of life and love for everyone and everything. She was just the perfect person, really. She was the picture of innocence. And then she met Jess. He was the bad boy, a mini James Dean, if you will. He was hardcore bad, something that scared the shizz out of my aunt and uncle who had never lived outside of suburbia.

Well, over time, Alice became more and more like Jess. I loved her to death and I still do and she loved me, too, and she told me everything. I couldn't see it, but she could. She said that he loved her more than anything in the world and that when it was just the two of them alone, he was the most wonderful person she had ever met. She was seventeen when she ran away with him. He was a few years older than her, but no more than twenty-one.
Anyway, they ran off and she would make sporadic phone calls to me and send random postcards, letters, and photographs. I think I'd only seen her three or four times after she ran away. She became more and more like him, her clothes and posture and grammar, everything. She was becoming a female version of Jess. One day, though, he got fed up with it and dumped her. She didn't come back. She just stayed in L.A., swimming from party to party, doing what she could to get a free meal.
She would call me every now and then, always drunk of high off of something. It was horrible to hear her like that. She died about a year after he left her. She just couldn't take it anymore. She loved him more than life itself and she died because of him. I try to put myself in her shoes sometimes, and I can understand why she did what she did, but it's just kind of hard. Anyway, this song just really reminded me of Alice. May she rest in peace.
You're right. I mean..... This song is written by Taylor Momson, for christ sake. She is young. And new to the scene. And one hell of a singer. Look at her style, her voice, her appearance. If she isn't young and innocent on the way to becoming a hell lot less innocent, I don't know what that means....
