like, recently one of my friends was contemplating suicide, seriously. and i had to remind him of all of the people that loved him and how terrible it'd be if he was gone. then i heard this song, and thats just what it reminded me of.
"It's second nature for you
But its the first to make you my last one
The last one in my life
The first to make you cry
So lets drink this bottle to the very last drop
Tell me what you find at the bottom
Don't say you forgot what I need
Cause all I need is you"
^ this first part is talking about how she's been in love a bunch of times (no big deal)
but this is the first time she'll be someone's last love.
the last person in his life, and he'll be the first person to actually make her cry (not just over some random breakup, but over death)
so lets get drunk (probably get high and just be reckless in general)
and see what happens (maybe he'll die)
and all that's keeping him from directly killing himself is her.
"Tonight, tonight I send out apologies
The type that's cut off right over the edge
And if I try to say your name I'll just bite my tongue
It's your nightmare make sure to handle it well
Turn up your evil turn down your care"
^ he's going to apologize to all of the people who he knows he's going to hurt.
the short kind that just say "im sorry," because
if he tries to go deeper into it, he'll feel to guilty and say nothing
this is her nightmare (he knows its going to hurt her) and she needs to be mature about it (dont be reckless or kill yourself either)
and then he says to turn up her evil (give him hell, he deserves it for doing this to her) and turn down her care (stop loving me)
"I point this troubled ambulance
The passenger is nowhere to be found I escaped
What will they think of me?
What will they think of me?
When I lock my body in the trunk of your car
With all the pressure to the gas
Turn the Autopilot on
Let's see if we can fly tonight"
^ he doesn't want help.
like, people have tried to talk him out of it and he doesn't want to hear it. it makes him feel worse.
he wonders how people will remember him, and if theyll hate him for killing himself.
he doesnt want to actually kill himself (by making himself helpless in the back of her car) because he knows itd be wrong of him, but he just really really wants to die.
so he's going to stop caring, just run on autopilot and hope he dies.
"If I'm the cure
She's the disease
Do what you will
Just know what this means
If I'm the cure
She's the disease
Do what you will
Just know what this means"
^ if he is what makes her happy,
then she is sick. (he doesnt get why she loves him so much)
so keep telling him that she loves him
as long as she knows that it makes him hate himself more.
i know a lot of people who think about suicide have these exact same thoughts. ive had them, my friend who i mentioned earlier has had them, and im sure you have at some point too. thats why i love halifax, and this song, because its about something real.
i think this song is more about suicide.
