I see this as Bill singing from the perspective of a fan(s) who is 'in love' with him/another band memeber. This person (assumed female) is trying to convince him that he should be with her, but he can't because he doesn't love her. She feels like she knows him but, obviously, he's never met her in his life, so how could he love her?
It sounds almost guilty to me. The band can't 'love' everyone in THAT way, so it seems almost like an apology. 'Could it be I have to kill...' is almost a hint for them to be a bit more healthy in their affection. Everyone's seen the crazy fangirls; they're just telling them to calm down!
It's a bit more complicated than that.
