This song is about a guy recounting the story of how he found his significant other (girlfriend, wife??) He tells the story of two people who are ultimately meant to be together, but it doesn't happen right away. They miss their first opportunity (he looks one way, she goes the other,) and go their own ways. Then they end up working their way back to each other (dating other people along the way) until they meet up again. In the midst of telling the story, he explains how he doesn't mind the times he felt lonely or unfulfilled because now he has her, and that's all that matters.
Anyhoo, that's how I interpret it...
I really like the bit of Doobie Brothers sampling. I love "Black Water".
That's exactly how I took to this song! I actually plan to dance to it at my wedding. My future husband and I dated twice before we actually decided to get engaged recently, and I just love this song because it seems to fit our relationship.
Plus, we're from the south and LOVE dixie land bits in there.
