The first stanza describes the journey of humanity from a ocean-bound single celled organisms evolving all the way into present day human civilizations. Basically saying how far humans have gone from the beginning to present day.
line 1: evolving to surface onto land
line 2-4: mans journey from very basic survival living to modern consumptive living
line 5: human greed in exploiting earth
line 6: human conscience realizing their greed and its effects and beginning to try addressing the problem
The second stanza is I think a more poetic way of calling the listeners to open their eyes to the problem and no longer take the beauty of the earth for granted and seek enlightenment.
tired eyes: tired of greed (eyes are usually accredited for being the source of greed - avarice, lust)
line 2, 4: instead of being blinded by greed, use the eyes to savour nature's beauty (blossoming flowers= life, salty brine, blue sky= oceans and the sky)
line 6: enlightenment.
