When I first took a good look into the lyrics after I get many good listenings of how awesome their melodies and rhythms are so delicious. Well, at first the lyrics "i'm waking up tired, no god has appeared, i never ever really found real faith in the fear" and I was like oh, a little bit of a personal jab at religion in general, since much behind having faith, is the fear that is driving it.

But, as I remembered at one of their shows they did a lot of Jew jokes, and then said they were Jewish and were having a laugh at themselves. Now I see that this would be a good theme song for Kyle in south park as he is dealing with the same real life situation as these guys.

Take a look at "that my friends are gonna leave me if they don't believe that they can save me" Likely Christian friends who perhaps only value a friendship as a potential convert. Believe in Jesus and you will be saved. When they see they're not going to make "progress" on someone, they anull the friendship and move on, because religion is valued more than pure friendship.

You don't have to live like that.

You didn't lift my world off me, but you said let it go, so i did and now I SEE.

wonderfully written song

Yes, with the "that my friends are gonna leave me if they don't believe that they can save me" line Wow, I didn't think 'save me' as in religious-save-me. I missed that completely somehow!

My only interpretation for a long time was save, as in 'save from being depressed all the time'.

Both work really, this song (to me) is about problems of religion and getting over depression (to be general). I agree & all his lyrics I've heard are just amazing.

@jellydonut13 in that you are right. i grew up with some of them! not quite. i was in 6th or 7th grade, they were seniors. i dunno if the bass player Evan Winiker is with them anymore, but he was such a sweet guy. I was the ultimate loser and it was nice of him to even talk to me. and yes, our school was DRIPPING with Jewish, its hard not to make fun of your own jewishness when you go to a place as crazy as solomon schechter day school (now named Golda Och Academy in West Orange)
