This song is about the struggles and anguish of the inability to reach someone through lyrics.

"Disaster strikes, I try to write, describe the things I hold inside..." He wants to really open up and say what's on his mind and get a few things off his chest but he has 'writer's block' and feels like something is holding him back.

"My future seems to stay unknown, all alone in need of some assistance" He doesn't know whether songwriting and music could be a lifetime thing for him as it's difficult to describe exactly how he feels. He needs assistance to help himself understand why he can't open up to someone. OR it could mean in a love-and-relationship sense; if he can't talk properly to this person then their future is unknown together.

"Here comes the fear again, walls are closing in, smoke fills the air" Quite simply, he's panicking over the situation.

"What ever I say, what ever I write, what ever I do, I'm not getting through to you" People, or one person in particular, aren't understanding him properly. He doesn't know exactly how to communicate to them to make them comprehend something.
