Cover art for Strangers lyrics by William Control

For some reason the line "where have you been?" gives me the impression that the two "strangers" aren't strangers at all. She was waiting for him to pick her up. I think that they know each other, but for this one night they are playing the part of strangers. Maybe it's even a sexual role play. It also may imply that even though they know each other, they are still emotionally strangers. Or maybe they are so freaky and out there they are strange to everyone around them. Tey are compatible in their bizzarness. Compatible in the fact that they hate this world and they want to die. Strangers kind of gives me a Marylin Manson vibe from the lyrics (I'm in no way saying Control and Manson are copies or what not though). The "If I Was Your Vampire" song comes to mind. How Manson described "Vampire" I find is also very fitting for this song: it's about loving so much that you want to escape the world together, you do this by killing each other "but I'll kill you first because I don't trust you" This song makes me think that maybe these two planned to die together, but the guy is teasing her saying "you might say you want to die, but I think your lying, so I'm going to kill you first"....after they have sex of course.
