Out Of Season Lyrics

This is a finely crafted pop song which is extremely underrated.

It appears that this song is about a person whose signficant other dumped him. He was perhaps subconsciously aware of the warning signs, but ignorned them.

It isn't specifically mentioned whether the Significant Other cheated on the singer, but it isn't eliminated either. However, the S.O. was becoming increasingly emotionally distant.

It is an age old theme in music over the last century or so. But cliches are cliches for a reason-they are true. And it doesn't lessen the pureness of the message a whit.

I think anybody who has been dumped can probably relate to this song as usually when one thinks back there were warning signs at the time, but those were dismissed.

There are some more interesting lines in this song. For example "I wasn't playing to win". In other words, the singer was kind of like "whatever". He didn't really care so much at the time. He saw the warning signs and wasn't overwhelmingly troubled by them.

Also the line "Just when I thought I couldn't get any higher, you cut me down to size". The narrator held the power in the relationship. Then his gf dumped his ass.

It is a shame that all those REO songs get played over and over for the las 30 years but this song gets no airtime. It has been my favorite REO song for many years.
