My high school choir went to MMEA and we sang this as one song in a theme. I was told that Whitacre wrote this for a possible movie as a background track. Doesn't make it any less beautiful. We (my choir) understood it as a "mother" singing to her child. Even though there are so many bad things that happen in life (The storm shall not wake thee, nor shark overtake thee) it will be ok in the end. We also understood it as "It is ok to act like a kid once and a while. Don't grow up too fast and enjoy yourselves." Amazing song.
