Idk about political stuff, but i believe you are confusing self-righteousness with the perspective that you cannot know anyone's opinion as well as your own.
also, the implications are major, as you imply, but seem to preclude politics. More like general mindsets and mentalities, which obviously are greatly impacting of politics.
