Really good breakdown of the song, you've got it spot on minus maybe one thing. I don't think that the penultimate line so much of a biblical reference as it is just an expression. To be caught in the belly of the beast, is to be in the center of enemy territory. To be knee deep in it is even worse. I don't think that Darkest Hour would reference the bible unless it is to chastise the conformity or structure of religion. Or even the idea of it.
