Lyric discussion by zynka17

There's no concrete evidence to support my point, so I can't call it a theory, but one of the first impressions I had when I heard this song was that it's a prequel to "Great Expectations" with the same character narrating and singing about the "first wife" he dreams about in "Great Expectations."

yeah i thought that too... does anyone know about Brian Fallon's personal life? Was he divorced from a someone he married when he was young because alot of his lyrics seem to suggest that...

I heard in an interview, that the lyrics in 59' sound (album) were mostly nostalgic where as the lyrics from this album were all about the here and now, so im not so sure if its a pre-lude to great expectations. It could still b about a relationship that went wrong (due to the negativity towards her state of mind in the relationship) but he still loves her so he wants to take her pain away (i.e, gimmie the fevers that just wont break, gimmie the children u dont wanna raise)?

Brian Fallon has never been divorced. In Great Expectations "first wife" is just referring to a past relationship with someone that was much like a marriage. You know, when you're young and in love and you think you're going to be with someone forever... that kind of thing. :)
