I love this song. I just bought it last night, so I am unsure about who or what it is about. I love how the very beginning sounds like it might be a sweet, slow song, and then he just speeds it up and starts venting.
I would like to go off of other comments and add a little of my input about Jason vs Derek. I was always a huge fan of this voice in Mayday who had a strong accent and usually sang the most complex and amazing lines. I followed them for a while, loved their EP and their album. Before their latest album came out, I heard how Jason had left the group like year/years before. I was so upset, he was the voice that I was loving. I bought the new cd from Mayday Parade at Hot Topic, and listened to it on the way home. While it wasn't bad, it wasn't anything special. I loved the dual vocals, the long and fun song titles, and the really amazing lines in their songs(ie, and you dropped a note and we changed key, you change yourself and I'll change me, I really didn't see us singing through this. Then you screamed the bridge and I cried the verse and our chorus came out unrehearsed, and you smiled the whole way through it, I guess maybe that's what's worse.) And the very end of Just Say You're Not Into It, where you can here other words in the background, love that! I mean, honestly, who thinks of such great lines like that?
So, needless to say, I was really upset about the turn for the worse that MP had taken. Then.....I heard Jason had a band called Go Radio. I was nervous to listen, because I had such horrible results with the change MP had made. I listened and fell in love! I couldn't decide what songs to get. Eventually I bought I Miss You and Why I'm Home. Omg, I listened to them on repeat. No wonder Mayday Parade doesn't sound good without him, he MADE their band. He made them unique. Jason has this thing about him where the songs that he is in, they aren't just regular songs. They sound like he was really hurting when he was singing them, or he was really happy. It sounds like his diary. The songs sound like these are stories from his life.
Don't get me wrong, I am still a big fan of Mayday's, not as much as I was. I still love their music, some from their newest album, but mostly from their older album and EP. I will always be Team Jason, even if the tension between them is over. I was a huge fan, that's not something you can forget. Now, I'm all about Go Radio. I am super pumped that they just got signed to Fearless(I think). Mayday Parade basically screwed themself and Go Radio is the new MP.
Now Mayday Parade is just like every other punk band. Still good, but nothing compared to what they could have been with Jason.
