ok people listen up to someone who was actually living in seattle during the grunge explosion
diehard STP fans vs diehard PJ fans will probaly always hate eachother lol
PJ fans think PJ were ripped off
STP fans think STP arent given their proper respect for their music
bottom line is BOTH bands were accused of hopping on the grunge bandwagon... ( something PJ fans seem to forget )
there are some major differences between these 2 bands
PJ - they were more than just music... they were the anti-fame anti- corporate band who were very political and usually always very serious
STP - on the other hand... i dont think really gave a shit about anything, they just wanted to make music and thats all they cared about which is perfectly ok
and i dont care what anyone says... the people of seattle loves STP
there were alot of people in seattle at the time ... the hipsters as they were called at the time... who were hating on pearl jam or not listening to them as much anymore bc they got so popular... thank god those people arent really around anymore
and the fact that STP was despised by the critics actually made alot of people like the band more
so in the underground scene at the time you were either mixed on STP
and you were either too cool to like a band that was so popular like PJ
i remember bc i knew ALOT of people like that... since we were living in seattle at the time we thought we were the officials of who was good and who wasnt even though before NEVERMIND by Nirvana we never knew shit about any bands lol
i still remember the time when STP came to seattle in 93, my 2nd all time favorite concert i ever went to ( only behind the alice in chains concerts RIP Layne ) there was a heckler that yelled PJ sucks after STP played Creep and scott heard it and on the microphone he said nah man i like them... i always thought that was cool of scott to say bc at the time everyone was shitting on him and he still had the decency to compliment PJ... after that me and my friends were hooked on STP
And I remember seeing PJ in concert in late 91 when Ten was out but it wasnt known... i didnt even know this band i was seeing was going to be fucking huge about 6 months later but i remember it being an amazing show and to top it off there was like NO ONE there... they were playing to lik 20 people... then i saw them over the years about 20 times and ITS ALWAYS PACKED and everyone sings along to all their songs... good concerts but ill still always remember the first concert i saw of them before they were big... back when nobody knew what the fuck eddie vedder was saying but still went crazy anyways
ahhh beeing a teen in the early 90s was amazing im so lucky to have been around all these amazing bands!
...oh and btw... soundgarden > PJ AND STP :D
sorry i couldnt resist! :D
They both have the same influences
They both went less and less mainstream as time went on
They are both legendary bands
