I thought the song was JUST about a prostitute, but what a girl on BrightBlackHeaven.com said got me thinking. There is a possibility that Davey is thinking about himself as a sell out or a prostitute to the record label and the public. Most people today are used to a male singer/songwriter singing about a female, vice versa. So, Davey gave in and was gender specific in Love Like Winter ("She bit my lip" & "He bit my lip") and wrote about a girl in this song. However, there still could be that possibility that, yes, Davey is singing about himself. He might be thinking that he gave in and "sold out", this could possibly be what the Bright Black Heaven songs are going to be about. This is because the public today isn't ready and mature enough for someone like Davey who writes songs that are gender-neutral and gender-un-specific, the public immediately goes "That guy is gay." and that's it, gives no second thought on the subject. My dad is a perfect example; he saw a pick of Davey and said "Why do you have a gay guy as your background image?" That is exactly like what the public today is like, they have no respect. Therefore, Davey probably thought he had nothing to do but give in. Giving in is something he doesn’t want to do.
