I think this song is about a relationship that is definitely going down hill. The girl he is singing about is more worried about appearance than the actual relationship itself. And it seems they are just going through the motions and she has no emotion towards him except resentment ("Why can't you fake me a reason why you choose to blame me for all the times you hide.") I think he doesn't understand why she is being like this and he just wants her to give him something... Anything to know she is still there.
