First off, this is a great song. Such a happy sound, but a fairly forlorn message.
It seems to me that he's found he has become so detached from his current life, possibly following a painful breakup, reminders are all around and he cannot even share his feelings with people who used to be friends. He feels stranded and so has the urge to move away and start a new life, and teach his children not to make the mistakes that he did.
That's what I get from it at least.
