I love this song. It's pretty clear to me. He's saying no matter what we believe or don't we're all the same. We're all equal. He then says if you choose to talk about God have a rational civil discussion on the topic and have patience. He's saying we're all capable of doing bad things so thus we're all equal. The only time we're more than that is when we're doing good/great things. And that last line is the best. It's not the job of the believer to make the nonbeliever believe. I love it.
