this song reminds me of something i went through so this is how i intepret it. once there was a relationship between to people. they had proably been working on it for awhile and maybe one was catching feelings for the other or maybe both were, but something happend and one left. and now the other cant seem to get over how close they were to being completly happy with the other.

4 steps past love which in my opinion means they both alrady knew they had feelings of love for each other, they maybe just never told one another.
Now the only thing with that person are the memories of how happy they were and how they will proably never find another love like that so why even bother trying.
i relate to this song so much. its hard to think of all the great times you had with someone you gave you heart too and then relize that you will never be able to see them or talk to them ever again :(. espically when that person ment the world to you
