Big Sky Lyrics

This song is definitely not about there being no God, you can tell Ray's a believer by songs such as God's Children and Black Messiah.

I'm pretty sure it's about God having a bigger plan that's too big for people to see hence the 'Big' Sky. The song seems to be saying that we and our problems are relatively unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Notice how it says people who 'think they've got problems' i.e. trivial matters. It shows how God would love to intervene and help, 'though he would love to try' but he can't as he has to take care of the universe and more important things.

The 'One Day We'll be Free, We Won't Care, Just you Wait and See' I think is about death and how there'll be no more problems in heaven with Big Sky, who's no longer high up. Hence the 'till that day don't let it get you down', if it was about God not existing and people free of religion, it wouldn't get people down, in fact I guess it would be the reverse.

However, the end sums it up, 'When I feel the world is too much for me, I think of the Big Sky and nothing matters much to me'. Basically, whenever he feels depressed he thinks of God and what God has to deal with and realises how his problems are insignificant.
