In this case, the conflict these two people have in their relationship is making it hard to stay together even though its hard to stay apart. I can relate. I met a fantastic girl once. Pure angel. Perfect for me in almost every way; beautiful, talented, well-adjusted, smart, etc. But had very different religious beliefs and it became 'our war'. I had to leave it behind.
