I think this songs about like how older generations expect so much from youths, and they expect them to do what they have failed at. This puts alot of stress on the kids and they are being forced to go into the things they dont have passion for. Like: "'I see songs in shapes and colours

This is saying that like people expect them to go into jobs that other people think highly of, but this destroys kids creativity, just so the parents can be proud of their children when the child might like creative subjects such as music, art, etc.
They also say that children are basically dead as soon as they are born: "Bear this child directly into misery" This is because the childs future is already planned out for them, its not their own but the one that their parents wished they'd had: "So I can be the beacon of hope that you'd always expected"
Then the band tell you to not be like that : "So stick with your instincts
Stick with the imprints"
It basically means dont do what they want you to do, do what you want.
