Well I think this is about God. I have walked away from Christ before, and before to long, I already knew I did something wrong. Though I still tried to make it on my own. But the only thing that I find that wouldn't connect to this type of situation is when he says "I can't fill the emptiness inside since you've been gone" and also where he says "But I know there's something more to us than our mistakes" note he says Our mistakes. So in a way I think this may be talking about someone else but God.
I have read before that he has a bad relationship with his father. I don't know much about the band, I have listened to them for a few years now. But I never tried to find out more about them, I even saw them in concert at atf 2008. But from the two statements I mentioned above I believe this song is about someone other then God. Could it be his father? Or someone else?
Anyway it is a great song, and the cd is amazing. Keep up the good work skillet. God be with us.

Also, I think he could be singing to a girl, yes Skillet is a Christian band but they do also sing songs about love... much like Relient K. Great song. I love to play it on my accoustic, definitly a different arrangement, but the same powerful message. God lives, love lives, long live both.
