I can not stand these kind of songs. I love this band but when they write stuff like this ugh! its so annoying its not her fault she fell out of love with him stop blaming her and just leave her alone she's moving one. What good do songs like this do for these people.. Once agian GET OVER IT!
I'm a big boy, I can deal with someone being honest and open with me and my feelings wont get hurt. But when she LIES as most women do, THAT'S the IT we are not ready to get OVER.

"Darling, I'm not in the forgiving mood
You kept on replying
It was all in my head
Well you're just a liar
And I've got the proof
I've got the proof"

The problem was she was not being honest. It was clear she was avoiding the deeper relationship he wanted. As soon as marriage entered the equation she wanted out. But rather than admit that she didn't want to move on with him she filled her mouth "with a coward's lies". Furthermore he did move on. He saw her as a disguise of the girl of his dreams and so he vows to keep looking because he knows she's waiting. He knows there is somebody he can spend the rest of his life with, that IS moving on. She was in it for the short term, he sees that, so he's moving on to find somebody that doesn't resort to driving people away rather than telling them straight. And as for your question. A lot of people are in situations like this. And this song is inspirational in that it has the singer looking to a brighter future rather than stuck in a lonely past. And sometimes penning one's emotions onto paper and making a song out of it can help one or others cope with or grow through our experiences. And last of all, I doubt you would say that if you were in the character's position. So you love somebody, they start driving you away, avoid you, give you the silent treatment. They don't want to be the bad guy/girl and dump you, they want you to get the hint and dump yourself pretty much. They want you to end the relationship so they don't feel guilty. And the reason they put you through all of this is because your relationship went past their comfort zone. They're afraid of a serious relationship. They might have even cheated on you to get the point across. You ask them if they ever loved you and they don't know. Their mind is clouded with doubt. They're not ready for the future. They could tell you no, that would end the relationship, but would end it from their side. Suddenly it's your love being called into question. It was all in your head they say. To be innocent they need you to be the faker. This situation happens a lot, both ways gender wise. This song calls attention to it, just like a lot of Emery's songs call attention to other issues, some controversial even.

Grow up, dude.

This is how people move on. So he's doing exactly what she's doing, just in his own way. Don't be such a hater, man.
