It kind of sounds like one of his close friends went insane snd killed someone (So long, let these tears wash away the blood on your hands. So long, youre forgiven for easing her pain), and now he's going to either a mental institution or prison. I originally thought that it was his friend that died, but he says "That day felt like your funeral," and I don't imagine that he would say that if his friend had actually died.
