This song is so captivating. I have to listen to it 5 or 6 times in a row when it comes on.
My interpretation is that he disregards religion and is talking to his former God. He's experiencing grief for being lied to for so long and calls it a game.
He accepts the fact that things can't change since so many have been lied to and manipulated, but acknowledges that it's all wrong.
The final line ('A simple lie brings you down, in an ordinary way') is like stating that one little mistake could undo thousands of years of teachings. I guess it's ordinary to him since it's only happened to him, and not the millions of others who have been lied to.
I think you pretty much nailed it. Disillusionment towards religion is a theme that they touch on in various other songs too; for example in the songs 'In All Honesty', 'Divided', and 'Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us'.

I agree, it seems that he's talking to either directly his former God, or to the leaders of a religion that he once followed. The final line, 'a simple lie brings you down in an ordinary way', to me means that they (whomever he's talking to) can be completely discredited and brought down by a single little lie just like any...

It's like what good parents teach their children: it takes a lot of time and work to build trust, but one lie is all it takes to destroy it.

I'm probably way off, haha.
Oh well, I still love this song.

And I agree, this song is captivating.
