That is correct about the Nicholas Roeg references, but no way was this the first song ever to use samples.

James Tenney sampled Elvis Presley for his piece "Collage #1" in 1961. The Beatles were also pioneers of sampling (check out "I Am the Walrus", "Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite", or 'Revolution #9".

E=MC2 was released in 1985. Before that time, Grandmaster FLash, Collective Effort, Bill Holt, and David Byrne/Brian Eno had sampled extensively. Of course, so had many others.
