this IS my favorite on the new album. from the moment i first heard the intro i was hooked. i would have to take a guess and say that the "why" itself is the unbearable part. sort of like he's in a figurative prison (doing time/guilty) and having to address how he ended up there is literally unbearable.
then again, very little of the dog's lyrics can be taken for face value...
im also curious to know what the "lying in letters to someone i don't know" part is all about.
