I think it shows the coldness of a relationship that ended. Whereas once she was warm and inviting, she now is cold and distant. He can actually feel the chill in her touch. 'It' lies forgotten. 'It' is the love they shared, not personified any more.

My Interpretation

I agree. I don't think he's referring to his lover having died; I think it's the love itself or the relationship that has died. But a beautiful & poignant song, no matter how you read it.
