I've read all the comments on here. Though I do agree to the religious hinting in the song with the word spirit, I just want to bring light to Webster's definition of spirit. Particullary the first two entries under the word.

My Interpretation

I see that she is using the word spirit for the lacking of a better word. I see it as that she has an idea in her mind how her ideal mate, male or female, will act and treat her and that she is perfectly happy holding out until she finds that.
