Marinas is pretty much dead on about the meaning. Check out Matthew 24. I think he got the idea of this song from this chapter and or The Book of Revelations which says that the sixth seal is when the sun turns black
"The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth"
In Matthew 24:9 Jesus says "the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light" So I believe when he says he "fear[s] a world without the sun" he's saying he fears the world that will exist after the end has begun.
