After listening to a radio interview it turns out the song is about the lead singers brother who had autism. looking over the lyrics again. the song is an even more beautiful piece of poetry. wonderful writing.
@seanpoet Whatever the personal inspiration is for a songwriter, a song is not "about" that, imo. There is nothing in the song that reduces it to that one person or relationship - it would not be the great song that it is if it was reduced to that one interpretation. Great art takes inspiration from something and then makes it general.
