I disagree with most of you, I think that it's an ironic satire of the way women view men. Jarman is mocking the excuses women make up to use in order to dump men, that they've only gone for in the first place because they're in a bad state and are effectively using them.
'i'm a mess so you've always seemed inviting'. I also think it's easier to think as a girl singing it from the lyrics 'man's needs are lost on me.'
I came up with this theory whilst drunk, but the more i think about it the more it makes sense. :)
