You think that it is genius at the time, but when you come back to it the next day or at some point later, you realize that your epiphany was complete gibberish or not as profound as you originally thought it was. The song it's self has this sort of rambling way about it, trying to say something but never really getting around to it. And in the end even it even goes to say "it's not important what I wrote". Perhaps Dicky is trying to express more the joy of writing down something you deem important at the time, over what it is you actually wrote. If that makes any sense.
