This is a beautiful song with strong religous overtones. I think he is talking about introspection of his journey and now being in limbo. I think it indicates a certain weariness of the world. He is considering death and the forgiveness of his sins "sweet rain of forgiveness" such as in baptism. Walking away from anger, pain and sorrow and finally stopping and getting to the place when he is facing up to all of it. Walking in his grace is the forgiveness and mercy that is bestowed upon him and he feels as if he can finally rest. The "walking in his footsteps" lyric reminds me of the song by the Police with the same name. That song is basically about how the mighty can fall and how in your dominance you can become extinct. It also means that he will now try to follow a path of goodness because he has felt that grace and mercy.

Either that or he is Igor "this left foot drags behind my right" I can't decide. Any comments? No?
