Sailing in the Dark Isn't Smart Kid! Lyrics

Lyric discussion by SarcasmIsFailedIrony

sorry binging on the immenseness off this album tonight.

the lost ocean represents the directionless lives we lead, which he doesnt feel confortable with, to such a great extent that he let the hate/fear (imo very closely linked emotions) take control - "hiding from the light"

but it only offers short term satisfaction and at some point its necessary to man up and face the light otherwise you will only grow more and more distanced from it "they cant burn bright forever"

and although his life is back on track and he feels he is heading in the right direction, its impossible to forget about whatever was bringing his life down, and that is his motivation to keep "swimming farther than he ever planned to go"

he speaks of hate as a savior quite frequently, but i don't think he is using save in the way most do. generally "save" means being brought into a much safer environment. i think he almost means it in an escaping sense. There will always be the temptation to go back to his old ways, escaping/being saved from the intensity of the 'ocean'
