I think hes talking about a girl who thinks that this love that she has will solve everything and be easy (theres no shortcut to a dream). But shes young and naive and can't actually see who he is (you've got me wrong). I think he's alluding to that first love that everyone has when you don't completely understand what it means and thats something that will come in time with experience (through the give and take you had to learn how to cross the coals and not get burned).
