After knowing the song for years and thinking I knew what it meant I've recently come to terms with a friend who has mental illness. Since then "Unglued" to me has taken a whole new meaning.
"Moderation is masturbation"---typical bipolar disorder always feeling extreme, nothing in moderation.
"what is what and what makes you feel good." Again bipolar sufferers are never sure about what makes them feel good.
"All these things I think about, always come unglued." Burst of thoughts that make no sense, again bipolar suffers on the edge.
"Got this thing/feeling coming over me". Helplessness of a bipolar person about to have a nervous breakdown.
Y'know, I've always thought this song could be about a bipolar person entering an intense manic phase. The feel of the song is energetic but I don't sense a true happiness. I get the feeling that it's someone who's losing control of themselves and is underneath a little frightened by it. Sure there's energy but feeling amped up isn't always a good feeling.
