The Real Me Lyrics

I've loved this song for a really long time now, and it only just dawned on me that this song is likely unromantic. I mean, it still could be, but to me it sounds more like something directed towards a child. Whoever it's about is someone extremely forgiving, open and blindly accepting. Also, this part (which is missing from the lyrics above)

Shadows of shattered dreams They follow me They've haunted me But you've taken the broken pieces of my life and helped me to believe.

It seems like a calling to the future and maybe a general lack of care for anything that happened in the past--which is every characteristic of a child. It could be more introspective, too, and in Clay's case, perhaps the child that wasn't born yet.
