I like the idea of "electric is the love" as attachment to machines. We're coming up to the overload of the world, we all know it's soon, relatively soon. How much can stress can we put on the world before it overloads? I think the video (AMAZING VIDEO) shows this with the band driving Stylo faster and faster until they fly off the edge. Luckily they can transform into a shark sub (Mako sub maybe)
This verse still puzzles me:
when the mako flies, (a giant fish)
up from the bottom,
in your eyes,
then I know the twilight skies,
are not so broken hearted. (from the end of the line)
"in your eyes" is how you perceive the Mako, and this verse suggests that we see the Mako at the bottom, though it's a deadly shark. Maybe anything except us is at the bottom, makes sense really. Do you value the life of one animal over another? Twilight skies are pretty such night skies thanks to streetlights. Why they're broken hearted, I don't know =/
I think its him trying to reconcile with the fact that we're sapping the the life out of earth. When he looks down into the water(the eyes of the earth---sometimes the eyes of a person can look like pools of water ;]) and sees a mako swimming to the surface, it reminds him that there is still something completely natural surviving without any interference of technology. Then he realizes that perhaps he shouldn't feel hopeless and brokenhearted when he looks at the electric illuminated sky. There is still hope.

I've been listening to this song for years, but only recently my thoughts swirl around the lyrics. I'm forced to conclude that trying to understand the music lyrically makes the album and the band even more brilliant and enjoyable. Did not know that was possible.

You're definitely in the right direction.
