Such a beautiful song that brought tears to my eyes as I first heard the lyrics arise.
I don't believe I would be able to explain the full meaning of the song, such is a privilege of the artist. But I for the story behind the song I can relay rather well. For this song's creation was rooted from a conversation between Kimya Dawson and myself.
In 2007 I ended up recruited by the entertainment industry as a creative. I accepted the position solely for the opportunity to gain potent spokespersons and possible donations for the environmental and community development activities I was involved in.
After working with greatly contributing to Lady Gaga's Fame Monster, Black Eyed Peas E.N.D., and a Paramore albums I was asked what my favorite brand of music was and I strongly noted my passion for purist folk music, contemporary messages for the masses that through history have been the beacons of light and sounding out the truth and strife of common person's life.
Shortly into 2008 I was contacted by a folk artist whom I have yet to hear and feel was one of the most beautiful souls I have had the please to sow into my heart (You are very much so Kimya =). She said to me that she was asked by a friend to write a song about me or whatever it was I was doing.
At the time I was the Secretary of the Board and Project Director for a Worker-Owned Co-Op Nonprofit that works in sustainability and is focused on the development of eco-villages in an urban and rural setting www.MySpace.com/HeartlandCommunities501c3 (no conflict of interest between board and workers because they are one in the same in terms of voting) as well as working on the development of a statewide network to collaboratively support green efforts in a state ranked 49th in the environment which became www.AGreenerIndiana.org.
We shared the stories of our passion and purpose along with the need for friends to battle the old status quo of corporate greed and the need for help in shifting the new paradigm. During so I got off on a tangent about mourning a dear friend of mine who died young due to cancer who was a local figure known for starting the free press and creating the gardens we fed from. I still mourn the bright altruistic soul of Jeff Brunson ( http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=189530831&blogId=266299646 )
During which time I had to clear the air that I wasn't doing what I do for money, fame, or glory as most of those I have helped and prayed from them to pay-it-forward as promised. The truth is most have not, the statewide network was a huge success on its own steam and produced a national model which only needs a strong membership and spokespeople to self-perpetuate creation hundreds of jobs and millions in funding for green efforts while leaving a free space for information and communication among all stakeholders. www.AGreenerAmerica.org needs your help =)
Today I thank those like Kimya Dawson and En Derin who have kept it real and kept their end of the bargain. I hope the rest would have the strength to do the same rather than my soulful efforts be in vain from the manipulation and sycophantic nature of money and fame.
Time can still tell which side of visual striation the rest will fall into. Light or dark, to help or to hurt. My hope resides in the former.
In the mean time I will continue to enjoy the bliss of living in permaculture with like-mind spirits, sharing our fresh greens and eggs, flannel sheets and warm fires for those that come with mutual desires.
Many now the meaning can be extrapolated, thanks for reading.
