I can't believe that nobody has commmented on this song!! It's absolutely amazing.
It's about how someone is always being too hard on themselves, and they've finally realised, and they're sick of it, and they want to change. "Permission to Shine", meaning that they're going to let themselves be the best that they can be.
I especially love the line "I'm gonna shine a little of my light on the world." That, and the whole chorus, suggests that they've been trying to be somebody else, and they're going to let people see them for what they really are.
It's a great song, illustrating the way so many people feel today as the results of peer pressure and popularity and what-not.
